    • @EngineAdventures

      It is quite a bit lower, making the breakover angle bad in comparison to the competition. It is nice having the lower bed height though. Nissan needs to make a more off-road capable Nismo version.

    I have a 2018 TRD Sport 4X4 Manual, pulled a 2021 keystone passport 2400RB. Dry weight of 5,800 lbs. used a weight distribution hitch and was surprised how well the truck handled. 5th gear doing 70mph getting 9 mpg. Also, if your Tacoma has the factory tow package with the 7-pin connection, it will have a plug for a plug and play brake controller, watch a video before having one installed.

    • @EngineAdventures
      @EngineAdventures 2 дня назад

      That's a pretty large trailer for this truck, but I'm sure the manual transmission makes a big difference. I do always recommend a good weight distribution hitch with sway control anytime a travel trailer is being towed, so happy to see you had that.

    If the Tacoma had the frontier powertrain it would be perfect. Have owned 5 3rd gen tacos 3 being pros. Prefer my frontier pro 4x premium. Love the styling and aggressive look of the taco but that powertrain is dreadful.

    • @EngineAdventures
      @EngineAdventures 11 дней назад

      That's actually a really good point that I hadn't thought of. I do prefer the Tacoma suspension and chassis, but the seating position is better in the Frontier. A mix between the two trucks could have made for an excellent vehicle. I just never enjoyed driving the Tacoma at freeway speeds, and especially disliked it when towing.

    • @panchovia
      @panchovia 11 дней назад

      @@EngineAdventures I prefer the Tacoma’s fox suspension also and off road tech. But you are right on the highway at 80+ it’s miserable if you leave it in D. Gotta put it in 4th just to stop all the downshifting and even still on steep hills it’ll shift to 3rd. Mine would scream just to maintain the speed limit if I left it in D. I’am sure a tune would help, there are a lot out there but some guys like me don’t want to void the warranty. Frontier does 9/10 of what the Tacoma can stock for stock off road. Modified they are both = in terms of off road ability. Been a Taco fan ever since my dad let me drive his 2003 trd supercharged trd off road Tacoma . That thing was perfect on and off road. 2nd gen would had been nice loved seeing them never had the pleasure of owning one. 3rd gen’s are disappointing. I tried 5 different times just couldn’t love them. This 24 model frontier reminds me a lot of my dad’s Tacoma.

    It’s surprising to see how Armada struggles to climb a tiny slope. Also the suspension travel is so limited. Our Australian Patrol version walks over any terrain with so much of grip. Watch the Australian y62 Patrol off-road videos. You will be surprised how capable this vehicle is. A tough competition to the LC300. Patrol is let down by its interiors here but US market has a very neat and modern one.

    Hey there thank you for the informative video ! I'm new to towing and am going to be towing a 3500 lb car on a rental trailer from uhaul, I plan on buying a trailer in the future. Did you go with a 4 inch drop on your hitch ? Any words of wisdom ? I'm trying to learn everything I can and the information is a bit sparse. Looking into buying the same hitch you have. Thank you very much

    • @EngineAdventures
      @EngineAdventures 15 дней назад

      Right now on Amazon the Flash 6" drop scale ballmount is only $169. I typically suggest the 6" but it depends on the height of the truck and the height of the trailer. My brother with an F-150 uses a 4" that works for all his trailers, but this truck has a hitch that sits a little higher than his. The Scale Ball Mount is nice, but does have a tiny bit more play than others, so you might get a little more noise from a bump now and then. On the other side the spring has a cushion effect that helps separate the tow vehicle from feeling the bumps the trailer hits. Both of these are minimal and not cause for concern, just an FYI. As for towing advice, just make sure you have proper tongue weight. That's the biggest factor. Many new trucks also require a weight distribution hitch when towing over 5,000 lbs. If you're going long distances I highly recommend the weight distribution hitch with the Equal-i-zer brand being my top recommendation. For shorter jaunts to local tracks then I wouldn't drop the extra money for the WD hitch.

      The faster you go the less stable the towing setup will be. This trailer has more drag than RuPaul, making it white stable at speed. It also has well over 10% tongue weight. Generally when I'm towing I stay between 65-70 mph. Slower is better for fuel mileage and trailer sway, but also impedes traffic which causes issues on its own.

I would assume the TRD being that it has the offroad dampers which would smooth out the ride. I would just not like it to be too "floaty". This trim looks really cool, but I would like the smoothest on road ride. Really, really good review of this trim which is nowhere to be found. No dealer has it. I found a couple of Limited's. @@alive4082 to keep it simple, there are 3 differentials on most 4wd vehicles (some do things differently). Usually putting the vehicle into 4 High or 4 Low will lock the center differential, however that doesn't lock the front or rear differentials. In the case of the Pro-4x there is also a locking rear diff that can be engaged when in 4-low. I do have an explainer video that talks more on depth about various AWD/4wd systems.
